The failure of biotin or oxybiotin to exert a "procarcinogenic" effect on tumor formation by 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene.

چکیده
Oxybiotin, the oxygen analog of biotin (4, 7), possesses biotin-like activity for various micro organisms, the rat, and the chick (4, 8, 15, 17). In this respect, oxybiotin is unique among the vita mins of the B complex, since biological activity is retained in spite of the substitution of the sulfur of the ring by oxygen. It has been demonstrated that the activity of oxybiotin is an intrinsic property of

Oxybiotin, the oxygen analogue of biotin, can replace biotin in the nutrition of the rat (l), the chick (2), and certain microorganisms (3). It has been clearly established that Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Rhizobium trifolii can utilize oxybiotin directly (4, 5). Recently Krueger and Peterson (6) have obtained similar results with Lactobacillus pentosus. The present experiments were designed t...

The demonstration of the marked biological activity of oxybiotin (l-4), the oxygen analogue of biotin, has focused attention upon the mode of action of this compound. It became of particular interest to determine whether oxybiotin possesses intrinsic activity or whether its biological potency is due to its conversion into biotin. The evidence in the literature is conflicting on this point. Hofm...
متن کاملThe determination of oxybiotin in the presence of biotin.
The biological activity of oxybiotin (1, 2) and of an apparently similar substance (3) has been recently described. Prior to these reports the only compound possessing yeast growth activity comparable to that of biotin was desthiobiotin (4), which exerts its biological activity by virtue of the fact that it is converted into biotin by the yeast cell (5, 6). It was of importance to determine whe...
